Summary: This is going to be short, sweet and simple for both of our sakes!
When it comes to interweaving crass, sexual innuendo jokes and synonyms into a script and storyline, Mel Brooks is a master. He knows how to do off color with color, flair and most importantly class. He knows when to stop and when enough is enough. Mike Myers is clearly no Mel Brooks not even close.
This movie from start to finish is a crass satirical pun on the whole guru movement and guru’s everywhere. Interlaced with constant sexual innuendo, some more obvious and crass than others, Myers is attempting to make us laugh at the stupidity of people believing in guru’s and the whole concept of the over marketed and under delivered shyster guru’s that inundate our society. Whereas I do believe that guru’s of all shapes and sizes have tended to prey on the weak emotions and psychological wants and needs to build their existences versus actually delivering quantifiable product, thereby giving continued credence to P.T. Barnum’s statement There’s a sucker born every minute! And clearly, Myers has capitalized on this lemming mentality as well in the crowds following the master guru’s in his movie. But he does so with a dialog soaked in crass sexual innuendo.
Now, I like a good pun probably as much if not more than the next person and truth be told, there’s a few really good lines and scenes in here but way too few and one of the best comes during the credits as a blooper now that’s really sad!
Not even the absolutely stunning and beautiful Jessica Alba couldn’t save this one.
Add this one to the growing list of movies best not made, and go see something else.
