GQ – Peggy Lee is singing your song!

GQ – Peggy Lee is singing your song!

Well, frankly, I yielded to temptation and picked up a copy of the January 2009 issue of GQ, which is becoming to be known as the “Jennifer Aniston Issue”. It contains three incredibly thought provoking shots of Aniston and a rather fluffy and light weight article by Mark Kirby.

Peggy Lee was a singer in the 60’s and one of her hits was a song called “is that all there is?” In this song she laments how little there was to the circus and several other events in life and clearly leaves one asking, “is that all there is to Aniston?” Frankly, after all the UBER-HYPE of this issue in the print and tele-media, I really expected a decent interview and a much larger photo spread. Heck, Playboy’s interviews are generally 3 pics and a much deeper interview, albeit, they don’t usually have their subject sprawled across two pages and the gutter dressed only in a smile and tie.

At least I was happy to see that Michael Thompson did a much better photo shoot than the “creativity” we recently saw in a Miley Cyrus shoot in another publication earlier this year. I guess we’re supposed to go to GQ’s web page for more pictures and tons of web ads and invitations to subscribe to GQ.

I was VERY disappointed that Kirby, like everyone else, hasn’t gotten over Angelina. Frankly, I got a substantial case of AJIO (Angelina Jolie Information Overload). Geezuz, isn’t there more to talk about than what you’re eating at the time, how start struck you are with Aniston and all that AJIO crap! Kirby needs to join the rest of the tabloid press, get away from GQ and get a life!

This article was light weight fluff. I had hoped for a lot more. Kirby likes to refer to Aniston as being hemmed in by being defined by the tabloids…I think Kirby’s article is also hemmed in and defined by the tabloids, regretfully. Frankly, if there’s an article that qualifies for this year’s “Where’s the beef!?” award for over-hyped and under-delivered, well, Kirby and company get nominated. I think there’s probably a lot more to Aniston than meets the eye and the tabloids. Too bad it didn’t come out of Kirby’s writing.

It would be nice if people like CNN and the other news outlets would look before they hype. It makes for nice eye candy and sells ads, but loses them credibility as being a serious news provider.
