HP Scanjet problems – Update
HP Scanjet problems – Update
Well since there’s still folks looking up my articles on the HP scanjets, here’s a little update.
I basically gave up attempting to scan in ANYTHING that was color and had ANY text on the same page. No matter what I’ve tried, the page gets screwed up and the text displays looking like it’s Klingon’eze!
So, I went to CES this past January in Vegas. I went straight up to a very senior guy at the business systems booth. He was expecting me through an arrangement made by an HP contact in the Boise lab. I LITTERALLY GAVE HIM the scanner generated output samples, the originals that were being scanned in, and everything else he would need to duplicate the problems on a 8400 and a 8300 series printer. I was assured I’d hear back from him. TO DATE I HAVE HEARD NOTHING! NADA!
SO, my recommendation now is that if you’re in need of a heavy duty full purpose scanner for both color and B&W, you should seriously consider a vender that is NOT HP! I would recommend AVOIDING anything connected with the HP Scanjet 8300 or N8400 lines of products.
I’m basically tired of documenting HP Scanjet problems to incompetent drones that have no clue or interest in fixing major problems with HP products. It’s incredibly unfortunate that things have come to this stage, but that’s the way it is! But, when I go all the way to bring all this documentation with me to give to a HP rep at CES and I don’t get any response…THAT’S A PROBLEM!

no surprise… it seems that ever since Carly Fiornia left the company they adopted a strong commitment to cheap glossy products across the board. I bought one of the first laptops they came out with after they joined the laptop pricing war. Despite their best effort to give me the run around, they ended up replacing everything but the monitor and keyboard within the warranty period. It wasn’t until they replaced the motherboard and it still had problems, that they decided to actually send me a replacement. It’s a shame when American companies abandon the one differentiator we had on the Chinese… then again Lenovo is proving that even they can beat us at our own game…

Jason,
I agree. I use Lenovo Thinkpads all the time. Wish they’d come up with a decent bulk scanner along the line of the Scanjet n8400 series. My guess is it would actually work!
