Pet Garage Doors – A Really Neat Idea!
From the “I wish I’d thought of that FIRST” department comes the product of a company in Bradenton, Florida, which not only allow your pet to go in and out of your house at will but also add some security to the pet gateway to help insure that it’s only the pet you want that actually gets into your home, not that ugly mongrel that lives down the block!
The company is called Pet Doors USA (www.plexidors.net) and what they have is a small remote garage door type concept that’s pet sized. You put a little RFID chip embedded token on your pet’s collar and the door mechanism detects an approaching pet and opens. When the pet is through and left the proximity of the door, it closes. This allows your pet to take care of it’s business and not interrupt yours. The only problem I see off hand is that you have to have a fairly well trained pet or else it may stay out for extended periods of time unattended, and this will not necessarily endear you to your neighborhood. But a well trained pet should return, using the same door and technology and all remains peaceful in the family. Just make sure you keep their food and water bowls inside.
These little mini garage doors for pets come in a variety of sizes and colors and are either installable in a door or into an exterior wall. The power supply plugs right into the wall and they can be programmed for multiple pets, in case you have more than one, and still keep the security factor of blocking other unwanted animals from entrance.
The pet part of the system doesn’t require any batteries and is water proof and shock proof. So, as long as the pet has the collar and the unit is plugged in, things should work fine.
The frame is made of steel and aluminum which should provide strength, security and durability for a longer term solution. And there’s pet safety features built into the product to keep noses, tails and paws from getting pinched. Further, should you lose power, the unit is designed to not just drop on any pet that happens to be in the doorway at the time of the outage.
This is a really cool idea! Now, why didn’t I think of this?
