Election – Let’s change the rules!

Election – Let’s change the rules!

The first of the primaries is this week and like many of you I’ve already had more than enough.

If the press isn’t running stupid ads for insurance toting lizards or maids, it’s running and rerunning the same schtick about some happening in some minutiatic corner of Pigs Knuckle, Iowa, where some candidate is flipping burgers while flipping off his opponents. Then there’s the talking heads that think they know everything about everything political and are more than willing to tell you about it. Unfortunately, we seem to submit ourselves to this form of torture, albeit voluntarily, about every four years regardless if we need it or not.

It’s time to consider another option.

Last I checked, the constitution doesn’t require that we be subjugated to the pains of the primary process and all the political pundits’ pontifications painfully purloining the airways.

So, in the interest of keeping American green and beautifying America further, let’s make a change. I submit that we in effect only need ONE “primary day” before the political parties get together for their week long drinking sessions which we generally refer to as a convention.

The benefits of this are many, but here’s a few:

Each state would have equal weight and say in terms of who the winners and losers are in that everyone votes on the same day. Gone would be places like Iowa and New Hampshire being given an undue advantage in deciding who survives the early elections and who gets weeded out long before the rest of us have a chance to have our say!

Can you imagine how much time and money would be saved? Perhaps a constitutional amendment requiring that all primaries in all states shall be held on the first Tuesday of March. Get it done. Get it the hell over with and GET ON WITH LIFE!

When it’s all said and done with, the newscasters and other folks in the media as well as the rest of us could get on with having a life.

And all that folks, is nothing but goodness!

I’m Don Rima and that’s the view From Where I Stand.
